Bio

Tony Horton was born Anthony Sawyer Horton Jr. on July 2nd, 1958, in the small town of Westerly Rhode Island.  By the time Tony was 10 his family had already moved more than 5 times.  His father put in 3 years of service in the ROTC, so they were stationed at various bases around America.  They had moved to the big island of Hawaii all the way back to Connecticut.  Each move meant Tony had to make new friends in a hurry.  He became pretty good at it, which is probably why he later thought about becoming an actor.  Tony wasn’t shy, which gave him the confidence to go for what he wanted and follow his dreams.

As a child, Tony wasn’t a great athlete, but he was a decent student.  His father had excelled at sports and had even set athletic records at his highschool, but Tony Jr. focused on individual sports like gymnastics and skiing.  He had imagination and drive, but he never managed to develop a great body in school. Although he was athletic, his favorite food growing up was chocolate cake, which may have kept him from excelling. It wasn’t until the University of Rhode Island in 1976 that Tony finally became in tune with his fitness.  He was later told that being fit meant that he could land roles in Hollywood, and while it was a long shot, he figured that it couldn’t hurt to get in shape.

After college he moved to Los Angeles to find work as an actor.  To make ends meet he took on various non-acting roles. He was a handy man for Dom DeLuise, a gardener for Dolly Parton, a carpenter, a comic, a waiter, a go-go dancer; Tony hosted a a TV show on the Playboy channel called 360. He also worked as a landscape engineer, he was the NordicTrack man and a human statue.

While he was getting in the best shape of his life, the people around him began to take notice.  Tony discovered techniques for maximizing his workouts and started training his co-workers and studio executives.  It became clear to Tony that his passion was to bring fitness to everyone that could meet his challenge.

Now his favorite food is a grilled veggie pizza on whole wheat crust, and he burns off those calories with his active lifestyle.

Every Sunday Tony and his friends get together at the beach to go through a variety of gymnastic moves. They do fun things like form human pyramids and climb ropes upside down just to push their physcial boundaries. They love putting themeves to the test, staying strong and getting stronger as they get older, and the crowds enjoy it, too. Tony has a showman’s spirit, and enjoys getting the crowd worked up.

Tony spends his free time on the slopes, the sand, the water, and anywhere else he can push his body to the limit and have a great time doing it.

    Hi Tony,

I am so grateful I saw your P90X commercial. All those years of working out with just weights and not doing the various techniques. Now in the past 1 1/2 years I have dropped 20 lbs and I noticed it more when I am coaching my sons soccer team. The boys who are 12 and 13 can’t keep up with me and I am 41. I have my 2 kids working out with me on a modified basis on p90X, One on one and P90X plus. THanks again.

    Hi Tony,

Just wanted to tell you I’m a big fan. I’m on my 3rd week of P90X and I can totally notice the change and results. I’ve seen more results in 3 weeks with P90X than I ever saw in 3 months going to the gym. I don’t think there’s anything better out there than P90X and that’s what I keep telling my friends. It would be great to some day meet you in person and thank you for doing this for the people. Congratulations for all the good work and I hope I see you in a movie soon. I think you would make a great X-Man, or Watchman or some Super Hero.

Hi, I want to congratulate you on your awesome program. I’ve heard about it for a few years now. I’m a 42 yr old single mom with an active 15 yr son, working full-time and I don’t have a lot of free time. I bought your program and I love it. Your exercises and motivation can completely keep me on track! I think it’s very powerful and i’m happy to be doing it. I’m only 4 weeks in, see positive changes physically and mentally! Although, I can’t do it sometimes everyday, because life happens. I do it full fource and it may take me 120 days to make my goal, I WILL MAKE MY GOAL!!I recommend it to all those who will listen. You are an inspiration. p.s. Seriously, I hope Tony gets this – my son, Sean and I think he is awesome!!

    Tony,

Jan 2007 I was diagnosed with Kidney cancer. After two surgeries I was told that November I had 1-2 yrs at best to live. At age 50 with a family and a life it was quite a shock. Immune therapy was highly reccomended. We looked at ways to strengthen my immune systen naturally as an alternative to hospitalization. We found things that work with my body and I have undergone a drastic change of lifestyle since, I used 10 Minute Trainerfor about a year and now P90X. I’m 60 days into P90X and this past weekend ran a 10K race in Richmond VA for the Massey Cancer Center. I feel better than I have in my adult life ! Oh, I’m in the 1% of men diagnosed with Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma that are alive after 1 yr from diagnosis! Thanks for helping me in my fight against cancer ! I’ll continue to “Bring It”

Tony, I just completed my 1st P90X workout today (Back and Chest) and Deeply Intense does not begin to describe it. I am looking forward to tomorrow when I will be doing Shoulders and Arms. My numbers are not where I want them to be YET, but they will be soon enough. (The word for the day…) Thx Tony!!
